John Kitchingman Stables (1851 to 1881)

John Kitchingman Stables was born at Spring Gardens Doncaster, 6 days before the 1851 census, on 24 March, to John Stables (b.1820 Bamborough, Northumberland) and his wife Mary Kitchingman (b.1821 Barnburgh, Yorkshire).

In 1861 the family were living at 35 Horsefair Doncaster at which time John Stables Senior's occupation was 'painter'.

The 1871 census record shows John Kitchingman at the age of 20 living in Batley and employed as an assistant to William Carr, Master Saddler. He married Mary Ross (b.1857 Holbeck, Notts.) in the Wesleyan Chapel in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1874. Their daughter Mary Susannah Stables was born on May 30th, 1875, her birth certificate shows her father's occupation as Master Saddler.

The April 3rd, 1881 census finds him at 3 Halls Court, Leeds, described as Brother (Head) with occupation of puddler, ironworks.

He died on 16 October 1881 and was interred at St Peter's Barnburgh. Both the 1881 and 1891 census record Mary Susannah Stables living with her maternal grandfather James Ross (b.1823 Rotherham), a Nurseryman/Cattle Dealer, in Bolsover.

John also had a son, called James Forster Stables, who tragically committed suicide in 1896, at the age of 18.

Mary Susannah Stables (1875-1952)

Mary Susannah Stables married John Thomas Wild (b.1874 Staveley, Derbyshire) and continued to live at Ross Orchard, Bolsover, where the first four of her nine children were born.

In about 1902, the family moved to Clowne, where she lived until her death in 1952.

  • John Thomas Wild (b .24 June 1913) (Jim Wild's father)
  • Isabella Wild (b. 12 June 1915)
  • Arthur Wild (b. 23 Jan 1918)
