The Will of Roger Stables

This is a full transcript of the Will of Roger Stables who died at Tinglebridge in Wath in 1649. I apologise that there is one smudged word that I just can't read. The Will is held at the Borthwick Institute in York.

In the name of god Amen the last day of October, Ann Im~ 1649 I Roger Stables of Tinglebrigge within the parish of Wath in the county of Yorke husbandman somewhat weake in body but of good and perfect rememberance (praised bee god for the same) doe make & ordayne this my last will & testament in manner & forme following First I comend my soule into the hands of almighty god my creator hoping assuredly of the salvation thereof in & through the {illegible word} of my saviour Jesus Christ & my body to the earth And for my worldly estate which it hath pleased god to bestowe upon me I will & dispose thereof as followeth my will is that my debts & funerall expenses shall bee first paid & discharged thereout. Then I will and bequeath forth of the same to Mary my wife Ten pounds in full of her third get fourth of my goods & chattels, Item I give & bequeath unto Elizabeth my daughter twenty shillings in full of her get & percent forth of my goods she having beene formerly presented by me upon her marriage & otherwise Item I give to Esther Hudson my grandchild daughter of Thomas Hudson five pounds to bee paid by my executor unto the hands of the said Thomas Hudson within a yeare after my decease & by him forthwith to be disposed of for her best advantage till she doe attayne the age of seventeen yeares or bee married, whichever shall first happen & upon which the interest thereof paid to her Item I give to each other of the children of the said Thomas Hudson being by a former wife pyd.
