Arthur Stables (1855-1949)

Arthur was born in Wath-Upon-Dearne in 1855 and was the 2nd son of Charles Stables and his wife, Mary Ann Stevenson. He was a cabinet maker by trade, but followed his father into the licensing trade, running the Star Inn for ten years after his father's death. He married Emma Street in 1889 and he and his wife and children eventually moved to Blackpool, where he died in 1949.

This is a transcript of the Will of Arthur Stables of Blackpool who died in 1949. It was proved at Lancaster in 1949.

The Will of Arthur Stables of Blackpool (Dated November 30th, 1934).

WILL OF ARTHUR STABLES

THIS IS THE LAST WILL & TESTAMENT
of me

ARTHUR STABLES of 33 Bryan Road Blackpool in the County of Lancaster Retired Cabinet Maker I hereby revoke all former wills & testamentary dispositions made by me & declare this to be my last will & testament I appoint my daughters Ethel Stables & Ella Stables (hereinafter called my Trustees) to be the Executors & Trustees of this my Will Whereas under & by virtue of the Will of my late father Charles Stables I am entitled to one fourth share of & in the real estate consisting of six houses named Rockingham View Cemetery Road Wath on Dearne & eight houses in Albert Road West Melton & by the Will of my said father I am given power of disposing of my said fourth share by Will only Now I do hereby give & devise & bequeath dispose of & appoint my said fourth share of & in the above mentioned property unto my two daughters Ethel & Ella in equal shares I give & devise my fifteen cottages numbered 1 to 15 inclusive Market Terrace Wath upon Dearne unto my Trustees upon trust as to numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 to collect & receive the rents & profits thereof & (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to pay the same to my daughter Ethel during her life & after her death I direct my trustees to stand possessed of the said last mentioned five cottages upon trust for such person or persons & in such manner as my said daughter Ethel shall be her will appoint & in default of such appointment shall not extend upon trust to pay the rents & profits of the said last mentioned five cottages (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to my two daughters Florence Dunwell & Ella Stables equally between them if both are living or to the survivor of them as the case may be & as to Numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 to collect & receive the rents & profits thereof & (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to pay the same to my daughter Florence Dunwell during her life & after her decease I direct my trustees to stand possessed of such last mentioned five cottages upon trust for such person or persons & in such manner as my said daughter Florence Dunwell shall by her will appoint & in default of such appointment & so far as any such appointment shall not extend upon trust to pay the rents & profits of the said last mentioned five cottages (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to my two daughters Ethel & Ella Stables equally between them if both are living or to the survivor of them as the case may be & as to number 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15 to collect & receive the rents & profits & (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to pay the same to my daughter Ella Stables during her life & after her decease I direct my Trustees to stand possessed of such last mentioned five cottages upon trust for such person or persons & in such manner as my said daughter Ella Stables shall by her will appoint & in default of such appointment & so far as any such appointment shall not extend upon trust to pay the rents & profits of such last mentioned five cottages (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to my two daughters Ethel Stables & Florence Dunwell equally between them if both living or to the survivor of them as the case may be & I declare that the power of appointment so given to each of my three daughters as aforesaid shall apply not only to the five cottages over which they have the power of appointment but also during the lives of two survivors to one half of any unappointed portion of any deceased daughter & in the case of the last survivor to the whole of any unappointed portion of her two deceased sisters & I further declare that after the death of the survivor of my said three daughters my trustees shall stand possessed of any unappointed portion of the said fifteen cottages upon trust for my grandchildren whether legitimate or illegitimate if more than one equally between them but if only one then for such one only I give & devise my four cottages called Ivy Cottages in West Melton unto my Trustees upon trust to collect & receive the profits thereof & (after payment thereout of all incidental expenses & outgoings) to pay & divide the same equally between my three daughters Ethel Florence & Ella during their joint lives & to the survivors & survivor during their or her life & after the death of the survivor I direct my trustees to stand possessed of the said last mentioned four cottages upon trust for my granddaughter Marjorie Hardy the daughter of my deceased daughter Ellen Hardy I give devise & bequeath all the rest residue & remainder of my real & personal estate whatsoever & wheresoever unto my two daughters Ethel & Ella equally between them they paying thereout my funeral & testamentary expenses & debts & I declare that the executors & trustees for the time being of this my Will may instead of acting personally employ & pay a Solicitor or other person to transact any business or do any act required to be done in connection with the administration of my estate or the trusts hereby declared including the receipt & payment of money & that any executor or trustee being a solicitor or other person engaged in any profession or business may be so employed & shall be entitled to charge & be paid all professional or other charges for any business or act done by him or his firm in connection with the trust including any act which an Executor or Trustee not being a Solicitor or other person engaged as aforesaid could have done personally In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will & Testament set my hand this thirtieth day of November one thousand nine hundred & thirty four.
