The Will of Francis Stables of Armthorpe. Dated 1681.

I have transcribed here the Will of Francis Stables, who was a tailor in Armthorpe. It is held at the Borthwick Institute in York. This Will was kindly provided by Michael Chance.

In the name of God Amen twenty second day of February in the year of our Lord God; 1681; I Francis Stables of Armthorpe in the County of York Talor; say by expecting thy lifes dissolution & designing to be with my Redeemer Consideringe the uncertainty of this life. Submittinge my selfe to Gods Good pleasure neverthelesse att this instant whole of body & of good to perfect memory praised bee Almighty God for the same; I doe ordaine & make this my last will & testament in manner & forme followinge; first I doe most joyfully commit & comend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hopinge through the mercy of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to have full & free pdon [sic. Pardon] & remission of all my sinnes & everlastinge life after this life ended. And my body to the Earth from whence it was taken; there to be keept untill the Lords Second Cominge & as for those worldly goods wherewith the Lord hath blessed me I dispose them of as followeth; first I give & bequeath to Thomas Stables my eldest son one shill; next I give to my daughter Sarah Stables the sume of one shill; next; I give to my second son John Stables one shill; next; I give to my youngest son Richard Stables one shill. Next: my will is that every one of these my children have twelve pence a peece in full satisfaction of all Right, Title or Interest which any of them may clayme or demand forth of my estate to be payed by my executor within twelve months after my decease; the rest of my goods as undisposed of my debts beinge payed; & funeral expenses discharged; I give unto Sary [sic. Sarah] my loving wife whom I doe make sole executrix of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seals this day & yeare first above written;
